What is the difference between event and summary data?

Event definition

Event data represents information about a specific point in time for a user. For example, activity events are generated immediately after a user completes a physical activity, such as a 30-minute run. This data provides specific details about the activity performed.

Summary definition

In contrast, summary data provides an overview of a general period. A common example is physical health summaries, which are generated at the end of the day and may include metrics like total daily steps or calories burned. This data contains information about all activities performed by the user throughout the day.

What data is available in each data type?

Both event data and summary data may contain similar types of information, but they differ in the time periods they represent. For instance, consider both an activity event and a physical health summary again. Both might include information on steps (steps_int); however, in an activity event, this number reflects the steps taken during the physical activity, whereas in the physical health summary, it represents the total steps taken throughout the day.
